Greetings!
Big news on the FCIX front. We have made an agreement with Minnesota
VoIP to have them operate an extension switch for FCIX in MN as part
of their remote peering product.
After my conversations with Jeremy, I'm convinced MN VoIP will be able
to run a responsible extension, and has a solid funding model and
commitment for upgrading their transport back to the FCIX FMT2 core
switch when needed. Rest assured that the FCIX team still holds
peering in the bay area as the highest priority, but this extension is
yet another sign of how successful this project has been, and the
additional bargaining power we gain with each new network that joins
the Cabal.
At this point, we're up to the two FCIX sites in Hurricane Electric
FMT1 and FMT2, and this new site in MN. Our current topology map is
available on our website: https://fcix.net/about/
We will be adding MN VoIP as one of the named sponsors of FCIX thanks
to their support, and ask that you look forward to an email from them
with the specifics on their remote peering product, which they will be
offering in Fremont as well. They have donated a peering port on MICE
to AS7034 to assist us in operating the FCIX cache nodes, which has
already proven valuable for running the Google Global Cache.
Unfortunately, FCIX does not provide private VLAN peering services, so
you will need to order a dedicated cross connect for connectivity, but
Hurricane's cross connects are very reasonably priced with no monthly
recurring cost.
As always, thank you thank you thank you! All of you have helped make
FCIX possible, and your generous donations in hardware, money, and
willingness to participate continue to come in and make re-investment
in this crazy project possible.
The Cabal Grows.
